Public administration reform and anti-corruption

Recent developments in the region have increased the demand for UNDP support from UNDP's Public Administration Reform and Anti-Corruption Sub-practice. The European Union's (EU) eastern expansion in May 2004 and January 2007, and the establishment of its European Neighborhood Policy, have increased the political momentum for public sector reforms in Western CIS countries and the Caucasus as part of the drive to create closer links with the West.

UNDP Bratislava Regional Centre concentrates on making effective contributions to the achievement of two overarching developmental goals:

  • Improved capacity of national governments and state administrations for quality policy-making and effective implementation of MDGs/poverty reduction-related policies; and
  • Improved institutional capacity to confront and reduce public corruption including corruption in post-conflict countries.

Programme initiatives are designed and implemented to support country-level activities as well as regional activities that complement country-level efforts by UNDP. These activities will enable the transfer of knowledge across the region and should result in the development of strategies, methodologies and good practices that can be replicated.

Community of Practice

The Bratislava Regional Centre aims at enhancing the capacity of the Regional Community of Practice on Public Administration Reform and Anti-Corruption (PAR-AC). The Community of Practice should take an active part in identifying and developing regional and sub-regional project initiatives, and the Bratislava Regional Centre aims to strengthen its role in knowledge management, to create stronger links between regional and country-level projects on PAR-AC to enhance impact and sustainability and to support multi-country initiatives generated by country offices.

Knowledge Management

Besides facilitation of the Community of Practice meetings, which in themselves constitute a great platform for knowledge sharing, UNDP BRC is also developing knowledge products and informative websites regarding Public Administration Reform and Anti-Corruption.
